Family Portrait Photographer in Carmel, Indiana
Families don’t need “more photos.” They need finished art—portraits that live on your walls and get enjoyed every day.
At LV Portrait Design, we create luxury family portraits in Carmel, Indiana with a full-service experience: styling and concept consultation, studio or on-location photography, an in-person reveal and ordering appointment, custom wall-art design, and complimentary installation. If you want portraits that feel effortless—and end as real, beautiful pieces in your home—you’re in the right place.
If you’re here, you probably…
- Want portraits that don’t disappear in a camera roll.
- Feel stressed about what to wear, where to go, or how to get kids to cooperate.
- Want a photographer who can lead the process (not just “show up and shoot”).
- Care about your home and want artwork that fits your space beautifully.
That’s exactly what we do—start to finish.
The LV Portrait Design Experience
This is designed to feel calm, guided, and genuinely fun—while delivering a finished result you’ll love long-term.
1) Style & concept consultation
We’ll talk through your vision, your home (where artwork might live), your family’s personalities, and what matters most. You’ll get guidance on:
- outfits + color coordination
- studio vs. outdoor, or both
- location options (including multiple locations if desired, no extra charge)
- how to keep things easy for kids
2) Your session (studio or on-location)
Whether we’re in the studio or outdoors, I’ll guide you the entire time—posing, prompts, and simple direction so you never feel awkward. We’ll capture:
- classic family portraits
- natural connection + laughter
- individual kids + sibling combinations
- parent-only portraits (yes, you’ll be glad you did)
3) Reveal in 5 business days
You don’t wait weeks wondering what you got. Your images are presented in an in-person reveal where you’ll see your favorites and choose what you want to enjoy in your home.
4) Custom wall-art design
This is where “pretty photos” become art that fits your home. I’ll help you choose sizing and placement and can show mockups so you feel confident.
5) Delivery + complimentary installation
When your pieces arrive, we install them—so you actually finish the project and get to enjoy the result immediately.
Consultations are complimentary and pressure-free.
Where Carmel Families Love to Shoot
Every session is designed around your family, but these Carmel locations come up again and again:
- The Village of West Clay — new-urbanist streets, porches, and brick, for timeless family looks that won’t date.
- Main Street and the Arts & Design District — storefronts and classic small-town frames right in the heart of Carmel.
- Midtown and the Monon — murals, modern architecture, and the trail, for a more editorial feel.
- The Palladium — the grand architecture at the Center for the Performing Arts, when you want something a little more dramatic.
- Monon Central Park — pond and boardwalk, prairie edges, and golden-hour light, with room for kids to be kids.
- Coxhall Gardens — gardens, fountains, and the bell tower: open light and timeless backdrops that pair beautifully with wall art.
- Your home or property — the backyard where they’re growing up, a favorite porch, family land. Some of the most meaningful family portraits happen in the places that already hold your story. We decide together at the consultation — no extra fee.
- The LV studio — polished, magazine-style portraits, minutes from anywhere in Carmel. Most families choose the studio plus one or more outdoor locations — there’s no charge for additional locations, however many we use.

Wall Art vs. Digitals: What Actually Lasts
Digitals are convenient, but wall art is what becomes part of your family story.
Most families come to me because they want something finished: a framed piece in the entryway, a statement canvas above the fireplace, or a gallery wall that makes the home feel like theirs. If you’ve ever said, “We need to print these someday,” you already know the problem.
You’ll still have digital options, but the heart of this experience is creating artwork you’ll see every day. To learn more about wall art vs. digitals, read my blog post: Wall Art vs Digital Files: Why Most Family Photos Stay Hidden Away
If you’re worried you’ll love too many images and feel stuck, here’s how we make decisions simple and get everything finished.

What Carmel Families Say

Luke made our whole family comfortable in front of the camera, including the teenagers, and he had a great eye for locations.” — Joy A., Google review
“He put both of us at ease… If you’re looking for a portrait photographer in the Carmel area — family photos, senior pictures, or equestrian portraits — I’d recommend him to anyone.” — Jeannie B., Google review

Family Portrait FAQs
When should we book family photos in Carmel?
Six to eight weeks ahead is comfortable, and for fall sessions with holiday cards in mind, reach out by early September. I take on four families a month, so golden-hour dates in September and October go first.
Where do family sessions happen in Carmel?
Outdoors somewhere that suits your family, in the studio, or both. The Village of West Clay, Main Street and the Arts & Design District, Midtown and the Monon, the Palladium, Monon Central Park, Coxhall Gardens, and your own home or property are the ones families ask for most.
Can we use our home or property?
Absolutely. A backyard, a porch, family land — the places that already hold your family’s story often make the most meaningful portraits. We decide together at the consultation, and there’s no extra fee.
What if our kids won’t cooperate?
That’s my job, not yours. Sessions are guided and relaxed — prompts, play, and patience — and the candid in-between moments are often the images families love most. Teenagers included.
What should we wear?
Every session starts with a styling consultation. We talk through outfits, colors, and textures together, and I’ll tell you what will work with your location and your walls, so nobody is guessing the week of the session.
How much do family photos cost in Carmel?
Family sessions start at $890 and include a $500 credit toward your images and wall art, plus a planning consultation and an in-person reveal. Most families then invest in wall art or an album designed for their home — with delivery and installation included.
What do we actually end up with?
Finished artwork on your walls, not a folder of files you mean to print someday. You see your portraits in person within five business days, we design the pieces together, and I deliver and hang them — with a lifetime guarantee.
Do you photograph families outside Carmel?
Yes — throughout the north side, including Westfield, Zionsville, Noblesville, and Fishers. See family photos in Westfield. Have a senior at home? See senior portraits in Carmel.
